I need help with a window in my home. It is a tw-1, lower half swings in, I cant get it back in track 2 close?
I think I swung it in before I raised it high enough. The metal studs on the bottom of the window will not go back in the slots in the frame. I need to know how to get it back in the slots so I can close it!! Help!
I think you are right - you tilted the lower sash before raising it high enough. Although it would help to know what brand of window, I'm pretty sure this will fix it:
Look in the tracks at the slots that the metal studs should go into. It is likely that the slot is a round metal piece that has a slot cut in it. That slot is probably running up and down. If this is the case, do the following, VERY CAREFULLY! Starting with the track on the left sde, using a flat blade screwdriver with a tip that is about the same width as the slot is long, insert the tip into the slot and HOLD IT THERE SECURELY. Gently turn the slot clockwise. When you have turned it about 1/4 turn, you will feel the slot wanting to move upward (it has a spring in it that helps you raise the window. HOLD ON TIGHT! Slowly let the slot move upward in the track until it is at least 4 or 5 inches high (above the window sill). Then, turn the slot counterclockwise until 1/4 turn until it is straight up and down again (this will lock it back in place). Repeat that process with the other slot in the right side track and move that slot up until it is the same height above the sill as the first slot. [The only difference with the right track is you will loosen the slot by turning counterclockwise, and tighten it by turning clockwise].
What you are doing is making the screwdriver act like the metal studs on the window sash. Now that you've moved the slots up where they should be, reinsert the sash by holding it perpendicular to the window (parallel to the floor) and sliding the studs back into the slots. Tilt the window closed, lower the bottom sash, and latch it.
