Single to double lane intersection?
If I'm going straight through an intersection from a single lane road and across the street it's immediately two lanes, can I just get in whichever one I want? And do I have to signal? If so when?
Preferably someone from Canada, but I'm sure it's the same anywhere else.
The first thing you need to consider is the cross street if it's a two lane road, and whether there is a turning lane coming from either direction? If the person turning left from the other street has one, then go for the right lane. Likewise if there's a right turning lane from the opposite direction, go for the left.
If the cross street is only one lane or is two lane with no exclusive turning lanes, I believe you have the option to take whichever one is safer depending on who's sharing the intersection with you - because we all know that not everybody cares how they make a turn!
